Program Note
Yes, And… invites the audience to pause and reflect on the discourse in our lives.
It can be easy to avoid a potentially uncomfortable subject in conversation, irrespective of how fruitful it might be to discuss. It can be similarly tempting to offer a counter-opinion during an impassioned conversation, without really acknowledging the other’s perspective. The conversational sequitur “Yes, and…” acts in support of sharing nuanced perspectives which may not completely align, but seek to find common ground.
Yes, And… is a musical exploration of dialogue between double bass and percussion. It was written for and in collaboration with Bryan Bailey (double bass) and Peyton Esraelian (percussion).
