Program Note
Parsed was written for trumpeter Connor Holland during the Covid-19 pandemic, when most of the world was in lockdown.
There are two characters in the piece. The muted character is worried, distracted, anxious and edgy. The other character is a little unhinged – they’ve spent too many days in a row inside.
Premiered on a Yale School of Music concert series, Parsed was subsequently performed by Callum G'Froerer on a double bell trumpet, at the opening concert of the Composers Association of New Zealand Nelson Composers Workshop at the Nelson Centre of Musical Arts in 2022.
