Lines & Hues

Commissioned by Saint Kentergen College for the 2026 Chamber Music New Zealand NZCT Chamber Music Contest.

For two percussionists, flute and piano.

Program Note

Lines & Hues takes its inspiration from the variegated topography and striking blue and green colours of Wilson Bay Farm, Coromandel Peninsula, Auckland New Zealand, where St Kentigern College is developing a third campus. Composer Linda Dallimore utilizes the topographical lines of Wilsons Bay to develop musical linearities and explores the different shades of blue and green found in the foliage, rolling hills of Wilson Bay and the surrounding South Pacific Ocean, in a series of short vignettes.

Instrumentation

Percussion: 

Vibraphone – motor on, mallets to maximise pitch bending

2 Crystal wine glasses + water, tuned to E5 and F#5 + bow

Timpani – 32” and 29” drums, 2x superball mallets

Agogo Bells

Jam Block

Vessel and water (to lower triangle, agogo bells and jam block into)
